Rhys Cartwright originally worked as a chef before embarking on the Apprenticeship within the company two years ago.
After originally working as a chef in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, Rhys returned from travelling and started applying for office based jobs, but without any success.
With guidance from Chamber Training he decided to follow an Apprenticeship route into Business Administration with SMBC and has never looked back. He successfully achieved his level 2 qualification in Business Administration and progressed to level 3. His communication and organisational skills have improved dramatically and his future aim is to study at level 4.
Commenting on Rhys’ success, Rachel Swain, Development Officer at SMBC said: “Neither Rhys or myself had previous experience of the apprenticeship scheme, but it was a very smooth process in terms of enrolment and understanding what was expected. We had regular meetings with Rhys’s tutor to make sure we were on track and to give us the opportunity to ask any questions and Rhys also attended a number of taught sessions to support his learning and development.
“Rhys has grown in both his knowledge and skills but also his confidence in the past year. He is very capable in his role and is always exploring opportunities to further develop. He is a valued member of the team and is very reliable, professional and conscientious.
