Introduction to Abigail

“Hi, I’m Abigail Gumery, last years winner of the City of Coventry Freeman’s Guild Apprentice of the Year Award. I have recently completed my Level 2 accountancy apprenticeship with Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training.”

What motivated you to do an apprenticeship in Accountancy?

“The move to an apprenticeship in accountancy was a big career change for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous role, however, there was no room for progression. I knew that completing an apprenticeship in accountancy would open doors to various career pathways for me. As I’ve had experience within a previous apprenticeship, I was confident that this choice was the most suitable path for me to further my career.”

What do you think are the benefits of doing an apprenticeship instead of taking other career routes?

“I knew, from previous experience, that apprenticeships offer many benefits as opposed to other career routes. They offer you hands-on experience in a real working environment which allows you to apply your newly learned skills day-to-day. By starting out on my level 2, I knew that this apprenticeship would provide a clear pathway for career progression which was vital to me – I’m soon moving onto my level 3. And of course, the fact you can earn whilst you learn is another benefit!”

How have you found doing a Level 2 Accountancy apprenticeship with Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber Training?

“Completing my apprenticeship at Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber Training has been an enjoyable experience. The learning days have been fun and engaging and I’ve had my tutor, Anna, always on hand for any questions or queries regarding my portfolio. We’ve received a diverse range of learning materials to utilise in preparation for our exams, including workbooks, Kaplan online tests, and the AAT online portal. The overall support has been excellent, and I am pleased to continue my Level 3 studies here too.”

What are your progression options now you have finished your Level 2 apprenticeship in Accountancy?

“Having completed my Level 2 apprenticeship, my intention is to progress to level 3 at CWT. From my understanding, this involves more complex accounting tasks and deeper understanding of financial processes. After this, I then have the option to enhance my skillset through certifications such as ACCA or CIMA. However, I’m yet to decide exactly which path I may take!”

How has your level 2 apprenticeship help you prepare for level 3?

“The Level 2 apprenticeship has smoothly introduced me to the field of accountancy, whilst building my confidence within my job role. This increased confidence will be helpful as I tackle more complex tasks that may arise in my Level 3 studies. The level 2 apprenticeship has gradually developed my skills and understanding of basic accountancy principles, helping me build the foundation to expand upon in Level 3!”😊
